About the Symposium
This half-day symposium brings together IT leaders and researchers to exchange ideas about the opportunities and challenges organizations face in realizing the digital enterprise. Bringing CIOs and researchers together will allow participants to learn about the realities that CIOs face in practice. It will also allow researchers the opportunity to share with practitioners what researchers have found in their studies of the CIOs roles and how some of the challenges and opportunities they face may be addressed. The exchange will give CIOs new insights as to other possible approaches and actions they may take in executing their roles. Researchers will benefit from the exchange of ideas by gaining a deeper, more practical, understanding of what CIOs face in their everyday jobs. This will allow then to develop research agendas and questions that find resonance in practice and allow for the research produced to have relevance among business and IT practitioners. The exchange will help bridge the gap between rigor and relevance of IS research, a subject often debated by researchers in the field.
CIOs and other IT leaders are invited to:
Conf-IRM 2015 Healthcare-IT Forum
Realizing the Healthcare Digital Enterprise
Wednesday May 20, 2015 (9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.)
Delta Ottawa City Centre Hotel
101 Lyon Street N, Ottawa, Ontario
Background:
The digitization of healthcare processes and practices is moving ahead full steam with both government, private sector businesses, not-for-profit organizations, and individual clinicians making significant investment of resources to achieve a more effective, efficient, and less costly healthcare system. However, achieving the full healthcare digital enterprise is a very difficult and contested journey full of achievements, pitfalls, miscalculations, and improvisations. There are no quick fixes in this process. Success in the end will come through collaborative effort on the part of all the stakeholders to commit to a journey of learning and innovation.
This forum is part of the 2015 International Conference on Information Resources Management (Conf-IRM). We have put together a program that will bring academics and healthcare practitioners together to discuss issues faced in accomplishing the digitization of the healthcare enterprise. This opportunity to share experiences from research and practice promises to enrich our understanding of both the achievements and challenges faced by those involved efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
The program for the forum includes the following:
